siskin are a female-fronted indie/pop band based in
Cambridgeshire. We formed in July 2003 and have received many plaudits for our
songs and live performances. So, if you like great tunes played with energy,
personality and passion, hitch a ride and let's see where this journey can take
us….
The Music
We play original songs that everyone can relate to, featuring elements of
indie, pop and rock, with thoughtful lyrics wrapped around melodies that won't
leave your brain. We are inspired by all good melodic music, ranging from The
Beatles to Coldplay, but we are already cultivating a unique sound of our own,
built on the powerful, emotive voice of vocalist Katie, and the distinctive
playing styles of drummer Paul, bassist Jon and guitarist Gareth.
The Band
We were formed by Whittlesey musician and songwriter Michelle Bessant. Paul was
the first piece in the jigsaw, with Jon and Gareth next aboard. Katie beat off
competition nationwide to land the job of lead singer.
The Story So Far…
siskin (which means 'small songbird'), have come a long way in
a relatively short time. In October 2003 we recorded our debut EP, and since
then we have performed over 50 gigs, including the Cambridge Corn Exchange,
Carling Islington Bar Academy, Leicester University summer ball (headlined by
Jools Holland and Girls Aloud) and a handful of festivals, including the
Rockinbeerfest. We're now recording our new CD - featuring the tracks
Catch, A Better Place and Solid Ground - which is due to be released early in
2005.
